About Shelley Monahan
My love for hair started young-really young. In the fourth grade, I gave my best friend (with long hair) a bob in the kitchen (still not sure where our moms were), and by high school, I was bleaching my hair “Madonna blonde”. Hair has always been my creative outlet, and after two years of college in Santa Barbara, I followed my heart to cosmetology school-with no second thoughts.
I began my professional career in 1990, and have been lucky enough to work in just four salons over the years. For 21 of those years, I owned and ran my own salon in Huntington Beach, where I built a loyal community of amazing clients, and an incredible salon family. While I’ll miss them deeply, I’m excited to begin a new chapter by the ocean (my happy place) at Ocean Blown Salon in Capistrano Beach!
Among many hair services, I happen to be a curly hair specialist, and I was fortunate to train with Ouidad herself in the flagship salon in New York in 2010. Since then, I’ve helped clients embrace, and love their natural texture. I also like working with color, highlights, and straight hair- it’s all about finding the look that makes you feel like your best self.

Every client has a different head of hair, so I will charge accordingly!
Cancellation Policy
Your scheduled appointment time is reserved just for you. I kindly ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or changes. This allows me to offer that time to another client who may be on the waiting list.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will incur a $50 fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there plenty of parking?
A: Yes! There is parking behind the building, as well as underground parking.
Luckily we don’t have beach goers taking up our spaces in this location, as
we have the railroad track and fencing separating the two.
Q: What does the summer traffic look like?
A: As you exit the freeway at Pacific Coast Highway going towards Dana Point,
stay in the right hand lane. You will veer over to the first right, and that will loop
you around Southbound PCH towards Capistrano Beach. I have timed it myself, and
the salon is 3 minutes from the off ramp.
